City digital twins of large scale Energy Cyber Physical Systems – episode 5/5

Summary : this story shows the ModeliScale consortium project: motivation, challenges, outcomes and perspectives.

This episode concludes with the perspectives after project achievement, and gives additional materials.

Perspectives

For Dassault Systemes

  • Deploy in CATIA systems portfolio including the progress achieved (some results are already in Dymola end 2021 release)
  • Enhance Energy & Materials Industry Solution for optimization of the network design, monitoring, exploitation, anticipation and maintenance preparation; this may be envisioned together with other portfolio apps
  • Consider maturity of the findings, results are very promising, and there is a need to continue work, eg. on simulation to reach the required next order of magnitude for model size, for larger districts and cities.

For the consortium

Several perspectives are seen:

  • Mature the Modelica libraries prototypes (refer to episode 3)
  • Pursue scientific work (refer to episode 2)
  • Maintain the extended set libraries, extend the size of studies; and propagate the use of ‘virtual twins’ for design and simulation in the industrial  projects (refer to episode 4)
  • Envision the perspective for operating the energy systems
  • Provide training & engineering offers

Public support

ModeliScale project has been supported by the French State through FUI CFP, with Pole de competitivité labels; BPIFrance and Région Ile de France financial support.

About Standards

The Modelica Association is a non-profit organization with members from Europe, U.S.A., Canada and Asia. Since 1996, it develops coordinated, open access standards and open source software in the area of cyber physical systems.

The association hosts the Modelica langage specificationlibraries, and several standardization projects, including the new eFMI standard for model to ECU software transformation.

The Functional Mock-up Interface (FMI) is a free standard that defines a container and an interface to exchange dynamic models using a combination of XML files, binaries and C code zipped into a single file.

It is currently supported by 100+ tools.
