Few weeks ago I did an interview of @SB from CLAAS! Sven visited us on the Campus of Dassault Systèmes, to participate on a seminar with 3DS CATIA experts, and I had the possibility to chat a bit with him!
Can you present yourself?
Hello my name is Sven Bertelmann, I'm working for CLAAS, I am an application developer and consultant at CLAAS and I'm supporting the applications from Dassault Systèmes for the whole fluidic process that means the 3D Designs really Part Design and also the fluid Systems Design application as well as for the whole electric process that means the Electrical 3D Design and Part Design application and in the next step the electrical manufacturing preparation application with all side effects to other applications like Drafting but also some DELMIA applications
Why CATIA Electrical Fluidic solutions?
CATIA Electrical Fluidic solution and also the solution of the Fluid Systems Design and also complete Fluid Design application is based on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for us because all our sheet metal parts and the complete environment what we have in our system is inside the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and this is for us the key that we can do a proper route design for fluidic pipes and also a proper harness design because all our equipments are inside this platform which enables us for a good routing for fluidic and Electric.
What value for your business?
So the biggest value for us is that we can see in an early state where we have some problems so that means in the past we have created a lot of prototypes and for example in the Prototype we see that the hole in a sheet metal part was missing where we have to root through for hydraulic or for electric so today we are doing it into 3D with a complete routing and here we see that we have maybe some tasks to do before we create the first prototype which is reducing at the end the prototypes, the physical prototypes.
How do you address the whole process?
The whole process at CLAAS is normally really easy. For fluidic we are starting into the SEF application we are doing our schematic with a manual transfer into the 3D so we are comparing the diagram what we create with our 3D so step by step we are placing the equipments we are doing the routes to have a proper connection. On the electric side we are using a logical solution to export and IXF and these IXF we are using a source for our 3D design for the electric and this electric will then be completely defined and specified and then we are transferring this one to a documentation application
What are the next steps?
So the short term for fluidics we have investigated a lot of time into some routing enhancements now and we would like to use it in our 3DEXPERIENCE platform to get a better flexible routing and make it a little bit easier and faster for the designer this is the short-term solution. A long-term solution is that we would like to integrate a little bit Knowledge from the manufacturing so that we can directly simulate a little bit from the manufacturing to check if a pipe is directly manufacturable otherwise we have to do another route or another Design. This is the part for fluidic. For electric the short term is to get a little bit more intelligent to find parts compatible parts and also checking the compatibility between electric parts. A longer term solution should be so at the moment we are using another supplier for the documentation of a harness and this we try to replace against the electrical manufacturing preparation and having the complete process for the 3D into the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
