Validation-Based Metrics

Hello, I am trying to explore some various approaches to metrics. I have most recently implemented the approach shown in the link / video below. However, despite how simple this is to implement and despite the utility that it could have, I am stuck on the limitation that the dashboard metrics can ONLY represent one lower level metric. Since the dashboard metrics are taken from the lower level metrics (through redefined property), the dashboard metric can only represent one lower level metric.

In the example in the video and in documentation, lower level metric suites have at most 3 validation based metric definitions. But what if I had a metric suite with two metrics that track some failure mechanism? In order to track both at the dashboard level, I have to split out the two failures metrics into completely separate metric suites. Looking for any insight on metric dashboards.

Some things I have thought about and tried but haven't proven fruitful:

  • Default value on a normal metric definition that pulls in other validation based metrics to calculate
  • A higher level validation rule that references other validation rules
    • I am trying to avoid having a higher level validation rule that is just a repeat of logic of two others, because then I am managing three rules for two validation checks
  • Other properties besides a redefined property to tie the dashboard metrics to lower level metrics.

Any help folks have on this would be greatly appreciated!
