Balancing Indoor Environmental Quality and HVAC Energy Efficiency using 1D and 3D Simulation

Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning (HVAC) once considered a luxury is now an essential part of the building equipment, providing thermal comfort to the occupants, by heating or cooling of the incoming air, as well as maintaining the Indoor Air Quality (IAQ).

As a result, up to 48% of energy consumption in US homes is by heating and cooling. Many government policies such as the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) in the U.S. are now promoting green HVAC through tax incentives. New simulation capabilities can provide insights about the performance of an HVAC, help improve its integration in the building and satisfy government policies.
