Pipeline Pilot,Registration and Insight
Description
Starting with version 2019, BIOVIA Desktop Connector has enabled Pipeline Pilot, Registration, and Insight for launching BIOVIA Draw or ChemDraw on the desktop from the Chemistry Sketcher box within the application. Desktop Connector can be run in two modes:
- Legacy mode: This mode is identical to the BIOVIA Plugin, the predecessor of the Desktop Connector before version 2019. Legacy mode has several disadvantages, the main one being that the Desktop Connector client comes with an SSL certificate that needs to be renewed every one and a half years. The current certificate, which is contained in all versions before 2021 SP1, expired on September 4th 2021. The certificate in 2021 SP1 and 2022 will end on March 26th 2022.
- BIOVIA will not release new versions of the Desktop Connector with extended certificates. The expiry date was published in the release notes of the respective Pipeline Pilot versions over recent years.
- Messaging Service: To address the various problems with Legacy mode (expiring certificates, unsupported TLS1.0 security, blocking proxy servers), BIOVIA introduced the Messaging Service mode with version 2019. Messaging Service mode is recommended. It requires MS Internet Information Service (IIS) to be installed on a Windows server machine in the network. This server can be the Pipeline Pilot server or any other machine. Resolution
Users of BIOVIA Pipeline Pilot, Registration and Insight that are running Desktop Connector in Legacy mode should move to the Messaging Service. If they continue using Legacy mode, end users of the applications will be prompted with the Desktop Connector installer dialog box every time they launch the application. Launching the local drawing tool will not be possible anymore, except for users of Internet Explorer (IE) 11, which is not affected by the expired certificates. IE 11 launches BIOVIA Draw via ActiveX and can still be used with the Desktop Connector Legacy mode.
