What does water mean to you?
Why is water important to you?
What role will water play in the future?
Economic development and a growing global population means agriculture and industry are getting thirstier and water-intensive energy generation is rising to meet demand. Climate change is making water more erratic and contributing to pollution.
As societies balance the demands on water resources, many people’s interests are not being taken into account.
How we value water determines how water is managed and shared. The value of water is about much more than its price – water has enormous and complex value for our households, culture, health, education, economics and the integrity of our natural environment.
If we overlook any of these values, we risk mismanaging this finite, irreplaceable resource.
SDG 6 is to ensure water and sanitation for all. Without a comprehensive understanding of water’s true, multidimensional value, we will be unable to safeguard this critical resource for the benefit of everyone.
At the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab, we are accelerating various startups acting for the good of the planet on both land and sea scales.
"The ocean drives global systems that make the Earth habitable for humankind. Our rainwater, drinking water, weather, climate, coastlines, much of our food, and even the oxygen in the air we breathe, are all ultimately provided and regulated by the sea.
Careful management of this essential global resource is a key feature of a sustainable future. However, at the current time, there is a continuous deterioration of coastal waters owing to pollution, and ocean acidification is having an adversarial effect on the functioning of ecosystems and biodiversity.
Saving our ocean must remain a priority. Marine biodiversity is critical to the health of people and our planet. Marine protected areas need to be effectively managed and well-resourced and regulations need to be put in place to reduce overfishing, marine pollution and ocean acidification." United Nations.
OceanHub Africa, EEL Energy, Shark Safe Barrier, Mean Sea Level, Agreenculture, ... and the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab fulfill several engagements of the Sustainable Development Goal.
OceanHub Africa, one of our key partner is an ocean-impact cataliser in Cape Town, accelerating African ocean-minded startups and fostering a like-minded ecosystem. Inspiring more entrepreneurs to join the movement and find solutions sustaining livelihood whilst fixing threats to their marine ecosystems.
Their mission is to inspire and support scalable ocean-minded businesses and nurture an environmentally conscious and profitable economy that effectively mitigates the effects of global warming as well as the overexploitation and pollution of the oceans.
Today, many startups are mobilizing to improve the quality of the water. Whether at the level of the oceans but also of the land. We can think of some of them as Clean Sea Solution which is a startup cleaning the oceans from plastic waste.
