Wow! The place looks great, people cool and coffee is good. OK, my day can kick off now:

10 ans d’expérience aux US, rêves ou réalités | Jérôme Lecat | SCALITY
Key learnings from a French startup established in San Francisco:
People in US are expecting a very very intuitive and easy interface (much more than in France).
Expect an higher competition in US. Why? US companies are developping first in US and once they have a more mature or growing business they are considering going abroad.
Choose the right culture for your startup identity: “We are a French startup” or “We are an American startup”
When pitching your project start with the conclusion - the reasoning is secondary (in Europe is the opposite).

One good news:
France’s growth curve is the same of UK 🙂
Comment changer le financement des artistes, avec Londres comme point de départ | Marine Tanguy | CEO and founder MTArt Agency
I was especially pleased to attend this talk and found this woman and her business very inspiring. MTArt is a visual artist agency and fund. They invest in the best up and coming art and visual artists in London and internationnally.
Their business model is more interesting than a traditional art galeries for artists, they negociate and find the best opportunities with large panel of events and people. MTArt Agency acquires one piece of art per year and if they identified an artist that rises they buy.
MTArt Gallery use art to send strong messages: they recently invest in an innovative artist who create a statue that sucks pollution from the air like a vacuum.
One of the person in the conference room asks Marine if she would like to come back to France at some point? Her answer: “Yes of course but would be something impossible today. The revenue generated in France wouldn’t allow her to make survive her team. it’s a bit of a shame!
ICOs, Cryptomonnaires, Smart-assets…La vision d’un pionnier de la blockchain et des cryptomonnaies | Julien Romanetto | ARIANEE
One opportunity:
"In Europe, blockchain is one thing and in US it is another thing and in China it is another thing. US doesn’t really desire to take out untrusted systems…Could disrupt the GAFA tech gods. In this context, France ans Europe have a role to play.
Regard sur le monde de la tech | Stéphane Distinguin | Fabernovel
After Paris, why did you decide to open offices in San Francisco New York, Lisbon and Shanghai?
Tech hub - It was a necessity for Fabernovel to be there
The market - It was an evidence to support or clients. It has been the case for Shanghai for instance. China is less and less about imitation and more and more about innovation.
We follow talents. Some of our key people had a particular business motivation and we trusted them - The case for Lisbon.
Stéphane's one top advice:
Build a team with international profiles, different background and culture…
Les clés de l export pour les startups | Pedro Novo | BPIFrance
Point of focus when becoming an international entrepreneur:
Beyond financials MANY other elements have to be prepared and the following one is KEY:
Mindset of your company and its people: they should love travelling,…
Why going abroad? “Transaction value between US and China is equal today. In 10 years, China will triple compare to US. China is a must go. Thus, is giving them access to valuable user data that can be used for everyting. Then will come Africa…” GenY is desensitized to international risk. They have the mindset and the tools. They can do it collaboratively and associatively and not going through third parties . anymore.
This conference has been as well a good networking opportunity. Discovering entrepreneurs ( Chloé Roukbi who recently launched Mayage with her sister or Quentin Cohen Solal, product owner of @Eldorado a more mature start-up), venture capitalists (Catherine Poirier who has freshly joined the @serenavc) or curious and interesting minds!
And EXCLUSIVE NEWS: Next #LFTC will be in TORONTO in October. Who’s in? 🙂
