Meet Syos for International Jazz Day

As the world celebrates International Jazz Day this Friday, April 30, we want to tell you about a small Parisian company that is revolutionizing the world of saxophone and clarinet, the jazz instruments par excellence.

Jazz music has been a staple of the Parisian life style since the Great War, and its spirit is still well alive in the French capital today, from iconic clubs like Duc des Lombards to the very music that fills the streets. Syos was founded in 2016 in this highly conducive environment, and because pushing the boundaries in music doesn't stop at playing, the company set out with a scientific vision to deliver an unprecedented tool for jazz musicians: the 3D printed mouthpiece, with fully customizable acoustic properties and look, so that the sound and the object truly resemble the player.

In just four years, Syos has become the industry's rising star, going head to head with century-old businesses. The scientific method and production techniques that allow Pauline Eveno and Maxime Carron, co-founders of Syos and doctors in acoustics trained at IRCAM, to offer musicians around the world made-to-order mouthpieces have been called nothing short of game changing.

Whether they play with Pink Floyd, Gregory Porter or Lady Gaga, more than a hundred distinguished ambassadors already swear by these four letters, SYOS, for "Shape Your Own Sound": a customized experience made possible thanks to a scientific understanding of psychoacoustic phenomena as well as the technological leap of the last few years in 3D printing, spear-headed by industry leaders like Dassault Systèmes whose softwares are an incredible asset.

With a production capacity doubled from 30 to 60 machines, state-of-the-art facilities in the heart of Paris and a complete overhaul of its product catalog, Syos is looking to the future with confidence. After months of research and development, the Paris-based startup has teamed up with a Breton manufacturer to develop an ABS plastic that meets all health criteria and is produced locally.

The Syos mouthpiece is a product 100% made in France... and one that sells well abroad! Syos sells 500 mouthpieces each month, ships 85% of its production abroad and has just launched its e-commerce platform in Japan.

Syos crosses geographical and stylistic borders. Well-known by jazz musicians around the world for their flexible tone and effortless projection, Syos mouthpieces will soon be available in a "Classical" line with a new design, elegant curves that combine discretion and dazzle, and the promise of a sound perfectly suited to classical saxophone and clarinet.

Musicians should rejoice: there are no limits to the inventiveness of Syos researchers and engineers, whose sparkling eyes reach far beyond wind instruments!
