Project Pitch(Text):

Pulse oximeters are essential devices used in the medical field in order to measure oxygen saturation (level of oxygen in the blood). After surveying, we discovered that pulse oximeters are not suitable for born babies, as their fingers do not fit inside the device. The pulse oximeter uses pencil batteries. Alkaline batteries reduce their run time due to their high internal resistance, producing an early "low battery" indication.

As  batteries corrode, their chemical soak into soil and contaminate groundwater and surface water.Our ecosystems, which contain thousands of aquatic plants and animals, are compromised when filled with battery chemicals. This means that, when we drink from tap water faucets, we could be ingestion dangerous metals.
Exposing the environment to lead and strong corrosive acids found in batteries can cause burns and dangers to our eyes and skin. According to the Agency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry, toxic metals like nickel and cadmium found in batteries are known human carcinogens. Carcinogens are any substance, radiation or radionuclide that acts as an agent that causes cancer.

Solution:
In our product, we can charge an electronic medical pulse oximeter with USB charging, to reduce consumption of alkaline batteries, this can reduce harmful effects of batteries.
