Here is the description of our project for POTY 2021
Considering the pollution from automobile sources our project majorly focuses to prepare Tio2 based catalytic converter to reduce emission of CO and HC and also the design of metallic monolith .
We chose Tio2 as our catalyst cause of it's higher thermal and mechanical stability ,higher conversion efficiency and also the low cost . We chose the reactive grinding method for better energy balance , omission of solvents , closed environment and also the working temperature being close to room temperature .
For design consideration and calculations an Engine - 19L232 -0054G1 model with 305 cc displacement , horse power -10 hp and factory set RPM of 3800 was taken . Calculations for shell dimensions , volume flow rate and catalyst volume was done which came out to be 220mm , 29.20mm^3/hr and 0.00176m^3 respectively .
CFD Analysis is done to determine optimum cone angle (45 degrees here, inner substrate cylinder
) for uniform pressure distribution and reducing back pressure and less consumption of fuel.
Chemical slurry preparations will be done using molar concentrations of Na2SiO3 , TiO2 and Na2S2O5.
After the slurry is prepared it will be coated on the wire mesh and then undergo drying and calcination to be evenly coated on the wire mesh . After the wire mesh is dried it will be placed in cylindrical substrate and the outer casing will be placed , outer casing has been given small rectangular groove for preventing excessive heating and maintaining optimum working temperature .
Testing will be done on 4 way gas analyzer on the engine , the analyzer has non dispersive infrared detector to determine the concentration of CO,HC,CO2,etc .
Our project in addition to it's effectiveness also focusses on the sustainable aspects for the better environment reducing the overall pollution from small scale vehicles.
