The usage of renewable energy is increasing rapidly worldwide and solar energy is at the top of them. One of the main challenges of a solar farm is to keep the surface of the solar arrays clean so that the maximum amount of solar energy can enter the solar cells. Currently, different technologies are being used to clean solar panels at larger solar plants which have many limitations like required manual labor or required cleaning device for every solar row. In this project, a solar-powered automated cleaning system is designed that not only can clean a single row of an array but can transfer itself to another row for cleaning purposes. The system is composed of 2 main parts: the cleaning device itself and a transporting mechanism for the cleaning device to move the cleaning device between the rows. The cleaning device with the help of a rotating brush can clean a single row of an array and the transporting mechanism, a trolly-like structure, can transfer the device to the next row of the array using rails. This feature will minimize the need for manual transfer of the device between rows or installing a device in every row, thus the designed system will make the process fast, uninterrupted, and fully automated. The carrier has a solar panel installed to power the cleaning system. Furthermore, this system will open the possibilities for many customizations like switching between wet and dry cleaning of the arrays.
