Digital twinning is a great technique for prototyping ahead of manufacture, reducing product defects, and shortening time to market and also helps to determine the optimal set of parameters and actions that can help maximize some of the key performance metrics and improve forecasting accuracy. It provides an easy-to-access interface between the digital model and physical model which comes in handy to test the physical model without worrying about details of implementation.
Using this approach we designed a quadruped robot in CATIA and imported the product into 3d experience platform for mechanism testing and simulation.
We have used various 3D EXPERIENCE apps such as.
- Part Design
- Assembly Design
- Mechanical System Design
- Mechanical System Experience
- Functional and Logical Design
- Behavior Modelling
On the hardware side we have used :
- Arduino Controller.
- Servo Motors.
- Li-ion Battery
We developed this project in two parts in which we simulated our model using a Mechanical system and then we connected our hardware system with 3D Experience using a functional and logical design app.
Arduino Microcontrollers play a role to bridge the gap between virtual and physical models. The commands were given through 3d experience to the Arduino via serial code. This serial code was the communication between 3D experience and Arduino. We have created our own RFLP model in a Functional and logical design app in which the FMI block of Arduino sends set parameters to physical and digital models because of which physical and digital model perform motion simultaneously.
We used Solidworks PhotoView 360 for image and video rendering.
Why Quadruped?
- Quadruped robots are capable of navigating on any type of terrain compared to wheeled robots which can navigate on only specific terrain.
- Quadruped robots are more versatile than wheeled robots and can traverse many different terrains.
- Due to these capabilities, Quadruped robots can be used for spying purposes, surveillance, pipeline leakage finding, etc.
