Post #4 Brake System Design For Formula Student Race Car

Hello Everyone!

Once we had all the data and force calculations, we started with designing each component of the brake system.

For the brake system, the following components were designed:

1. Brake Disc

2. Brake Pedal

3. Pedal Box

4. Caliper

5. Balance Bar

6. Master Cylinder

We chose to design a drilled and slotted type of brake rotor as dust, gas, moisture, and heat can all escape from brake rotors with holes and slots more easily, ensuring that the brake pads make good contact with the rotors. Extra security and durability are provided by the combination of a brake rotor with a slotted surface that maintains cleanliness and a drilled brake rotor that operates cooler.

The brake disc rotor is designed in SolidWorks software with a drilled and slotted structure with an outer diameter of 220 mm and an inner diameter of 151.78 mm.

The brake pedal and pedal box are also designed in the SolidWorks software.
