Hello.
In the second part of my 3DEXPERIENCE experiences, there is xDesign, which I have experienced for a long time.
What got me most excited about xDesign was that it worked in a browser. I love the idea of being able to design in a web browser using any device (PC, phone and tablet). You must have come across my video called xDesign Touch Mode Experience, which I often link to in my articles :)
I was so tempted by this feature of xDesign that I bought a tablet for xDesign. I will also create a video series showing design, assembly and 3D printing on tablet in xDesign. Although xDesign is seen as the cloud equivalent of SolidWorks, there are points that separate the two softwares.
Let's take a look at what this cloud-based CAD software has to offer:
1. I can say that someone who has used SolidWorks program can easily use xDesign. There's even a mouse profile setting in xDesign software for this. Thanks to this setting, you can choose one of the 3DEXPERIENCE, SOLIDWORKS and CATIA options and use it with the mouse settings of the CAD programs you are used to before.
2. In xDesign, you can store your designs in the cloud. This gives us data savings and ease of access from anywhere. But it's not just limited to that. With the 3D Drive application, you can store your data both on your computer and in the cloud. Your data is always up to date as it is synchronized.
3. xDesign gives you the ability to design and assemble in the same environment. In this way, you do not need to switch to an assembly environment after making your design. You can continue with the assembly step from the same environment and call the parts you have designed for assembly from the same screen.
4. Since xDesign works in harmony with 3DEXPERIENCE PLM services, you can check the maturity status and revision processes of your design with the Lifecyle menu. Especially if you are in teamwork, these features will be useful for the smooth progress of your project.
5. xDesign lets you create ready-made solid shapes. When we are going to create a solid object, we can create cubes, cylinders, spheres and toruses without any drawing with this feature. For example, we decided to create a cube. We can determine the height, width and length of the cube. This feature provides great convenience, especially when used on a tablet.
6. This feature in xDesign really surprised me with its ease of use and fast results. The feature I'm talking about is the Design Guidance feature. With this command, when you want to make a design that you have not yet designed in 3D, but want to withstand a certain force, pressure or torque, it extracts the 3D geometry of the design. You can make a parametric design by referring to the design geometry resulting from this process, or you can use this design directly if you have a 3D printer. In addition to these processes, if you have a part that you have designed before, you can check the accuracy of your design by applying force, pressure or torque to your design. I made a short promotional video about it. I will share the detailed video very soon. Click the link to watch the video.
7. I said xDesign can be used on phones and tablets. But it also has a nice feature for touch screen devices. When you switch to touch mode, a new tool appears on the screen and you can perform various operations with this tool as easily as you do on your computer. For example, we hold down the Ctrl key while making multiple selections on the computer. In touch mode we can do this with Multi Select. Or we can lock the rotation so that the view does not move in the drawing environment. In touch mode, commands increase in size and provide ease of use.
8. When you make a design in xDesign, we can share it directly with the community, both as a painting and as a 3D model. If you have a team and have a private community, you can share your design in your community and get ideas from your teammates.
Based on my experience, I reviewed xDesign. It may have many features that I haven't tried yet. I created a poll about xDesign. I would be glad if you write your comments on this survey.
See you at next experience.
