I’m excited to share my latest SOLIDWORKS project: a 3D model of a Hyperbolic Paraboloid potato snack.
In this design, I focused on replicating the snack’s signature hyperbolic paraboloid (saddle-shaped) geometry: an incredibly efficient form that distributes stress evenly, reducing breakage during stacking and transport.
Each crisp’s curvature allows it to nest neatly, minimizing empty space and damage.
This concept dates back to a patented process in the 1960s, which revolutionized snack packaging and consistency.
Why This Hyperbolic Paraboloid Snack Geometry Stands Out?
Most chips are fragile, irregular slices of potato. This one? It’s engineered for perfection, thanks to its uniform dough formulation and precise shaping, it achieves both durability and a distinctive crunch.
By leveraging SOLIDWORKS surfacing tools and precise assemblies, I was able to capture both the visual appeal and the underlying engineering functionality.
The hyperbolic paraboloid shape isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s a testament to how clever geometry can solve real-world challenges like durability and uniformity.
