My university project course at TUDelft Aerospace Engineering posed the challenge of completing both the preliminary design as well as some structural design for a large passanger aircraft. As a nice addition for visuals, validation of calculated values, and as something generally cool, I modelled this plane in CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE. I'd like to share some pictures and a video here.
I used the following apps:
Generative Shape Design for surfacing
Part Design to thicken the surfaces and create some of the more basic elements
Collaborative Lifecycle for revisions
Live Rendering to modify materials and create the visuals
This model is quite rough and incomplete. The cockpit windows are not done very well, just being a split of a projection into the fuselage. The entire model is a bit of a mess, the inside of the plane is not modeled, etc. But I learned a lot while doing this; I have quite a big list of the things that I'd do differently, but for being the biggest-scale project I've done so far, I am happy with my work.
I'm looking forward to share some more of my work in the future around here. Thanks for reading this!
All the best, Miguel
Edu
