A quick behind-the-scenes about the catapult in my last simulation
✅ I built a simple assembly: a base (fixed at the origin), an arm, and a spring for stored energy.
✅ The spring attaches to points on the base and arm.
✅ I compress the spring by moving the arm back, storing potential energy.
✅ The basketball sits in the palm — and contact interaction makes sure the arm launches it instead of passing through!
✅ Finally, I add gravity to see that satisfying parabolic arc.
This is a simple example of balancing simulation fidelity and effort — and it’s a fun way to test engineering ideas, tweak parameters, and see the physics come to life!
💡 How would you design your own catapult? Would you use a torsion spring, or something else?
