Hexa Energy Tyre

For Aakruti Global Competition 2024, we have designed and developed a tyre capable of harvesting energy from road undulations, which are prevalent in developing countries such as India. The system employs triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) to efficiently convert mechanical energy—generated as pressure due to tyre deformation—into electrical energy. The harvested energy is then transmitted to the vehicle’s auxiliary battery to power subsidiary systems, including HVAC, lighting, and wipers.

After running the Simulation in Solidworks, We have determined the power output for a revolution of 20 RPM and 15 such TENGs with force on each tyre of 17000N is 5.4W from each tyre.

This whole idea is to get one step closer to a sustainable vehicle and reduce the dependency on the main battery source for auxiliary operations or lesser gasoline burning effectively reducing carbon footprints.
