As Randy Marlow states, "This is an Abaqus/Standard thermal stress simulation. The disk takes on the appearance of fried bologna but I can't claim the physics in this simulation is anything like the physics of real frying bologna. In the simulation, a ring of material around the edge and the material in the interior have different thermal expansion coefficients. The half of the material in contact with the pan has a higher temperature than the top half of the material."
