Exploring the Brake System for Baja Vehicles: Customized Brake Caliper
The main objective of the Brake system is to lock all the wheels of the vehicle Simultaneously, most often accomplished by employing friction. In automotive engineering, safety is given prime importance. The material selected for such a design will not be compromised with the safety provided for occupants. An efficient Braking system is one of the most critical systems in determining the performance of the vehicle. The brake caliper will play an essential role in designing an efficient Braking system. The main objective of this project is to optimize the existing design of a hydraulic fixed brake caliper, according to the requirement of ATV for Braking applications, and the newly designed fixed caliper can replace an OEM caliper with the same mounting distance as per the requirement. This customized caliper will be reducing the size and weight, it is designed with an Increased Bore Diameter which reduces the Driver’s effort, and a Dual Flow Path helps to reduce bubble entrapment.
CALIPER COMPARISON
In the following table, we present a comprehensive comparison between our customized-designed caliper and the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) caliper for Bajaj Pulsar 200 and Vespa KBX.
This modeling allows us to examine significant factors such as weight, cost reduction, and design changes that we have incorporated into our customized caliper. By evaluating these aspects, we aim to showcase the advancements and improvements achieved through our innovative design approach. Through this comparison, we can gain valuable insights into the enhanced performance and efficiency of our customized caliper over the OEM counterpart.
Final Model
We consider the required assembly constraints in the wheel Rim, Flow Path, seal groove geometry dimension, and piston diameter.
Seal Groove Geometry
The Rubber seal performs 2 main functions i.e. sealing the piston bore and retraction of the caliper piston after the application of the brake, Hence the Design of the seal Groove assembly influences the Braking performance.
