I have rendered this sphere based on the shared assets for our contest and would like to give you a suggestion to still take part in our competition...
However, the real motivation for me comes from my wife, who bought these red and white balls a few days ago from a nearby garden center. They are now hanging on our large lamp above the dining table - and it wasn't easy to take off one of them unnoticed and use it as a template for a material ^^. My wife didn't want to give any of them back .. hehe.
The final rendering was finally created with Stellar Physically Correct.
I created the textures in Substance Designer, the curved shape comes from a 32 bit displacement texture. This looks like this:
