Performing pivot and snap actions in Creative Experience
A standard set of action in CAD modelling is to snap to objects or pivot around a specific point. This is solved on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and in Creative Experience application by the usage of the Robot and a set of Operators.
The documentation describes in-depth how the handles work on the Robot. I won't go into those details here.
Pivot
- Right click the Robot. There is an option Disconnect robot. This option allows you to move the gizmo independent from the selected Actor.
- Position the Robot on a spot that you would like to pivot around.
- Right click again, disable the Disconnect robot option.
- Now rotate your actor. It will rotate around the robot location.
- Comment: This doesn't work with built-in behaviors.
HINT: Did you try the new timeline, works in combination.
Align and Snap
- Position your Robot, disconnecting it one more time on to the bottom of your product.
- Reconnect the Robot.
- Grab the middle of it and drag it around.
Controlling the Robot and your selection
In the essentials tab of the Action Bar there are granularity controls for your Robot. Make sure to explore these. When you hover your mouse on them you can locate helpful GIFs that explain what the options do.
Useful tips
Right click on Robot and enable rulers. I find they help me a lot to navigate in 3D space.
Check out the advanced controls by double-clicking on robot. I find it particularly useful for rotating objects with more precision.
