Having posted a question-type discussion, ideally there will be an answer somewhere in the discussion that resolves the issue. However, it only seems possible to validate an answer if it is a direct response to the original question, rather than one of the nested replies. This seems a significant limitation as one of the nested replies is just as likely to have the correct solution as one of the direct responses.
Please can nested replies also be able to be Validated as the correct / most helpful answer to a question?
