For years I have been using the standard default format where X axis is to the right, Y axis is up and Z axis is towards me. (For a front view)
Recently I clean-installed Solidworks 2026 and for the first time during the installation, it asked me whether I want the Z axis as up-down or whether I want the Y axis as up-down. Since I do a lot of CNC work, I selected, for the first time, that I want the Z axis as up down.
This has caused a lot of problems as I also use Visualise to make QUICK renders of parts. Contrary to Gemini's AI, I can not find a default setting in Visualise to make the z axis as up-down, and I would rather not fiddle with the default axis every time I export to Visualise.
So I want to change solidworks back to Y being up-down. EASY you say. Just save the template after pressing spacebar, and selecting "Y axis flyout".
But no, there is some other fundamental setting that gets screwed up, as now when I start sketching a fresh part, I select the front face, but now Y is to the right, X is down and Z is towards me. I then have to remember to reorient my view, which is a bit annoying. The clue to my solution may be in the attached screenshot where the words "Front Plane" are seen going down instead of previously, being the correct way up.
Any ideas?
