When we create a multi-sheet drawing, each sheet is in its own separate SLDDRW document. We don't just balloon one view or one drawing. We duplicate ballons on several views and drawings. As a result, we need the balloon numbers to be the same across different SLDDRW files. The item numbers cannot be assigned automatically by Solidworks and they have to be assembly-specific. So far, we have been achieving this by making assembly-specific copies of library parts and setting a custom item number in the custom properties of each part. We would like to stop making copies of these library parts as it greatly increases the size and reduces the performance of our large assemblies.
How can we assign assembly-specific item numbers to library parts so that any drawing displaying an assembly will display the same balloons numbers, but different assemblies using the same parts will display different balloon numbers?
Entering all the balloons by hand is not an acceptable solution. Making part configurations for each assembly is also not an acceptable solution.
Thank you
