Dear all,
I am considering using 3DEXPERIENCE Engineer for Students for my MSc thesis on a civil/façade engineering bracket with possible WAAM/additive manufacturing application including prototype/specimen production for axial testing.
My intended workflow is:
| Step | Software |
|---|---|
| 1. Topology concept | 3DEXPERIENCE Functional Generative Design |
| 2. Clean CAD geometry | CATIA / 3DEXPERIENCE |
| 3. FEM verification | Abaqus/CAE |
| 4. WAAM printability study | CATIA / 3DEXPERIENCE + manual checking |
| 5. Printing preparation deliverable | STEP/STL export + fabrication notes |
| 6. Physical printing | WAAM fabrication based on submitted geometry JSON file (toolpath/process) |
Before I commit to this workflow, I would like to ask:
- Can 3DEXPERIENCE Functional Generative Design results be exported as STEP/STP or STL?
- Can cleaned CATIA/3DEXPERIENCE geometry be exported as STEP/STP and imported into standalone Abaqus/CAE for independent review and verification?
- Can a 3DEXPERIENCE SIMULIA structural model be exported as an Abaqus
.inpfile including mesh, material, loads, boundary conditions, and analysis steps? - Can this
.inpfile be opened/run in standalone Abaqus/CAE and/or used as input/review material for Tosca Structure? - Are these exports (STEP/STL and Abaqus
.inp) available in the 3DEXPERIENCE Engineer for Students license, or are there any student-version limitations? - For WAAM/additive manufacturing, does 3DEXPERIENCE provide a workflow from STEP/STL to toolpath/process file such as JSON/robot path/machine-compatible output, or is separate software required?
Any advice, documentation link, or example workflow would be very helpful.
Thank you very much.
