[MISSION] Model for Me #1: The Nail Clipper Challenge
AI says it can model anything from a photo.
We say: Prove it
I just pulled a bunch of nail clippers out of my drawer (please don't ask why I have so many!) and thought: hmmm... I wonder how challenging it would be for someone to replicate - or improve - the design using SOLIDWORKS.
On the surface, it looks simple, but to a CAD pro, it’s a masterclass in lever-action geometry, cam logic and tension.

The Mission:
- Recreate a standard set of nail clippers in SOLIDWORKS with absolute technical accuracy.
- No "close enough" geometry—we want to see how you handle the lever-to-blade interface.
The Rules:
- Model it: Use the photo as your reference.
- Show the Logic: Post a screenshot of your final model AND your Feature Manager tree. (We’re looking for clean design intent, not a "geometric nightmare.")
- The Signal: Tell us the one feature that was surprisingly difficult to get right.
The Timeline:
- Phase 1 (The Build): You have 10 days to post your entry.
- Phase 2 (The Vote): The final 4 days are for community voting via 'Likes.'
The Stakes:
- The user with the most Likes by May 31 will be crowned our first Master of the Mundane
- You’ll also get a dedicated shout-out on a future podcast where we’ll break down why your human-verified model beats a "hallucinated" AI version.
Good luck and good designing!
NOTICE: By participating in this challenge, you acknowledge that nail clippers are technically "cutting tools" and that SOLIDWORKS is not liable for any user-generated bloodshed. If you can't handle the reference hardware, maybe stick to modeling something safer... like a marshmallow.
