Hi everyone,
I’m currently starting a migration of my work environment from Autodesk Inventor to SOLIDWORKS with PDM Standard, and I’d really appreciate some advice from people who have already gone through this process.
At the moment I have a complete legacy database created in Inventor, including:
parts (.ipt)
assemblies (.iam)
drawings (.idw / .dwg)
My goal is to work natively in SOLIDWORKS, integrate everything properly into PDM, and preserve as much as possible the original assembly structure, references, and relationships.
In particular, I’m wondering:
Is there a truly reliable way to convert Inventor data to SOLIDWORKS?
Which tools work best in real-world scenarios (official tools, FeatureWorks, third-party software, etc.)?
Any recommendations for managing converted files correctly inside PDM Standard?
And regarding SOLIDWORKS Composer: do converted Inventor assemblies behave well, or are there known limitations/issues?
I’m looking for a solid, practical solution suitable for a professional environment, not just occasional testing.
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to share their experience 🙏
Piero
