The Creation of the MMX Championship Belt

Model Mania Xtreme was born from a simple idea: let’s give designers a stage to go head-to-head in intense, fast-paced 3D modeling battles. These showdowns bring out the best in our community — friends and co-workers pushing each other in a fun, competitive environment.

But make no mistake, this sport demands real skill. It takes grit, stamina, lightning-fast reflexes, and total command of the virtual world. It’s athleticism for the digital age — and we knew it deserved a spotlight. That’s why Model Mania Xtreme made its debut at 3DEXPERIENCE World 2025 in Houston, Texas.

Of course, a sport this epic needs a trophy to match — something with the presence and prestige of the FIFA World Cup, Stanley Cup, or Lombardi Trophy. Since our battles take place inside a boxing ring, a custom championship belt felt like the perfect fit.

I knew this was the perfect moment to lean into my passion for crafting state-of-the-art championship belts. Since 2006, I’ve been designing and building custom belts for WWE and other high-profile clients. So when it came time to create the MMX belt, I brought that same level of intensity, precision, and craftsmanship to this design.

After meeting with @IA and @GC we all agreed the design had to be bold, dramatic, and instantly iconic.  No pressure... It also needed to showcase our sponsor SendCutSend, and capture the true spirit of 3DEXPERIENCE World a celebration of creativity, community, and craftsmanship.

This belt isn’t just a prize. It’s a symbol. One that honors the athletes of 3D modeling and the sport we’re building together.

In order to begin the process I created a 2D concept sketch of the Championship Belt. This showcases my intent and allows for a visual reference throughout the project. Once this was finished and the team was happy with the direction I created a SOLIDWORKS file to use for manufacturing.

I got all my stock parts and fixtures for this project from SEND CUT SEND

I used my CNC mill to create all the machined pockets and chamfered edges.  I then used my MOPA 3D laser to get all the detail for the SW logo.

The stones I used on this project were 7.0 MM ultra bright cubic zirconia.

I hope you all enjoy watching my design and build process below.  Also, be sure to leave a comment and let me know your thoughts on this one!
