Hey everyone!
I wanted to share a fun project I recently completed using xDesign and the sub-d modeling tools. My brother, an avid Toto fan and talented drummer, asked me to create a design inspired by a Toto album emblem—think rings and swords in an epic, rock-n-roll style!
He originally wanted me to draw the Toto "The Seventh One" album cover drawn as a tattoo design. I pivoted to something my parents might prefer over a tattoo and designed a pendant necklace instead. I started by 3D modeling it in xDesign with lot's of Sub-D modeling for the sword. I included the 3DXML for the file for any of you who want to mess around with it or modify it.
I then printed the design using a Prusa Mini and a Bambu printer to get the scale right, before getting a metal version made. I used an online service called Materialise to cast the final polished bronze, which turned out beautifully with a nice contrast between the polished and unpolished sections. The biggest challenge was balancing the stylization with the manufacturability, but Materialise's well documented design guidelines kept things simple and straightforward.
This will be a Christmas present for my brother, so don't tell him - I'll have to follow up here after I give it to him. See the video and images to check out the design and I've included the STL file for those who want to 3D print or have fabricated their own version. Hope you all enjoy the story and the design!
