A Fun Corporate Activity

I was approached by our Legal team not because I did something wrong 🙂  but because they were interested in an interactive activity that their team members could participate in during their week-long team conference. They wanted to get their hands dirty in the fab lab learning about the digital fabrication tools as well as xDesign, one of the many software tools they help to protect on a daily basis. So, we took on the challenge of showing our colleagues that even lawyers can use CAD to make some cool stuff 😄 !

In the past year, @S and I worked with Fab Foundation on a set of project lessons to accompany every Fab in a Box unit we help to sponsor. One of these project lessons was a custom rubber stamp. We thought that this would be a good example to showcase the power of sketch manipulation in a CAD program like xDesign.

During our time with the team, we showed how how simple it is to open an existing assembly, adjust the sketch that drives the rubber stamp portion of the design, and create a customized design within minutes.

As a perk, every employee in Dassault Systemes has xDesign available to them as part of their 3DEXPERIENCE platform access. So it was a simple process to get everyone prepared for the session.

In preparation, I batch engraved a number of predesigned stamps. I also laser cut all the handle pieces ahead of time. During our session, they spent the first half of their time playing with xDesign and the second part of their time assembling and using their custom rubber stamps. This, of course, is not an official stamp to be used on corporate documents, but it was fun to design and assemble. They had a good time in the end. We even had a member who continued after the session to create her own custom stamp design that we were happy to fabricate for her after the event.

If you have a corporate event coming up and have the opportunity to engage your team in some fun interactive digital design and fabrication, I hope you take the opportunity to share with them some of these fun projects. Happy Making!
