3D-Printed "Faith" BAG

Hello everyone!

I'm a 2nd year studient at the Institut Français de la Mode (IFM) in Paris. For a project we had to design a Bag. Here is a part of my process in a nice layout - from my artistic references to the final outcome, through an experimental 3D phase.

Thanks to Sébastien Rosel and three of his interns : Emilie Chatelais, Emeline Rabussier and Matthieu Blanco, I was able to 3D-Print the central piece of my FAITH Bag

This bag is inpired by two japanese animated movies from the 80' - Angel's Egg by Mamoru Oshii, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind by Hayao Miyazaki - but also by the work of french artist Louise Bourgeois and her work around the figure of the mother.

My intention with this design was to represent a positive vision of the future by exploring the image of a mother protecting her child. Combined with the aesthetic of the solarpunk movement, it expresses a strong feeling of hope in a World that acts defeted and feels futureless.

My design contains a 3D-printed half-sphere, recycled foam, lamb leather (from my school's deadstock) and a magnet as a system of closure of the bag.

Experimenting with volume - goal was to reach a very organic and close-to-the-body design :

Final Prototype and drawings of a bag collection :

Making of the bag : Glued lamb leather covering the 3D-Printed half-sphere. Hand cutted voluminous foam strips circulating around the half-sphere and the body - Bi-color leather sewed around. Hand made details inspired by hicking bagpacks.
