Motion Monday Orbital Shaker Motion Analysis: Eccentric Drive to Orbital Output

Hello Everyone 👋 , Welcome Back to Motion Monday.
I know its a little late but This one’s been in motion for a while — just took some time completing its orbit before making it here.
This motion study focuses on an Orbital Shaker and the mechanism that generates its characteristic motion.

Unlike simple rotation, the platform follows a circular orbital path while maintaining a constant orientation. This is achieved by converting rotary input into orbital motion using an eccentric (offset) drive.

⚙️ Key observations from the motion analysis:

  • The platform center traces a fixed-radius circular trajectory
  • No self-rotation of the platform ensures stable sample positioning
  • Orbit radius and angular speed directly govern mixing intensity
  • Velocity remains tangential, with continuous direction change across the cycle

This controlled motion enables uniform mixing while minimizing spillage and instability.
